Department of Physics at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites
applications for a <br>
postdoctoral Research Associate position in the field of
experimental intermediate energy <br>
nuclear physics. Our group is playing a leading role in studies of
deuteron photodisintegration <br>
and Compton scattering at the High Intensity Gamma Source (HIGS)
located on the campus <br>
of Duke University as well as in the development of the polarized
target required for this research. <br>
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop his/her own
new ideas for experiments. <br>
The successful candidate will be expected to supervise both
graduate and undergraduate students. <br>
Our group currently consists of two faculty members, one research
scientist, two research associates, <br>
and 3 graduate students. The successful candidate will be located
at either UVA or HIGS.

This is a one year appointment, however appointment may be renewed
for an additional two, <br>
one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and
satisfactory performance. <br>
Candidates are required to have a PhD in experimental nuclear or
particle physics by the <br>
appointment start date. Experience in photonuclear physics and
polarized targets would be an asset. <br>
Candidates must have effective oral and written communication
skills.
