The contract will have a duration of two years. The
candidate will join
the research activities of the Saclay team in the
COMPASS experiment at
CERN, taking part in the ongoing projects.

His work will be primarily focused on data analysis in
view of the
extraction of quark fragmentation functions (FF).
These quantities, as
well as the parton distributions, are universal
quantities that describe
many different reactions. The knowledge of FF is
particularly weak in
the sector of strange quarks. COMPASS has collected
high statistics data
on semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering of high
energy muons off a
proton target, with production of kaons. These data,
once analyzed, will
provide decisive inputs to global QCD analyses in view
of the extraction
of quark FFs. Simulations are also needed to prepare
future data taking.
The candidate is expected to play a leading role in
the data analysis
and also to join the effort of the Saclay team in
detector commissioning
and operation. In particular, he will be involved in
the preparation of
the detectors for the forthcoming data taking periods
in 2014 and 2015.
A Ph.D. degree in physics is required and previous
experience in data
analysis and/or simulation with the tools used in high
energy physics
(C++, ROOT) will be highly appreciated.
