<h5>What You Will Do</h5>
<p>The Physics Division at Los Alamos National Lab is recruiting
postdocs in the High-Energy Nuclear Physics team of the
Subatomic Physics Group (P-25) to participate in the
experimental programs of the team related to small-x nuclear
effects and heavy flavor physics in light and heavy ion
collisions. The list of programs our team participates in
includes:</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>Light and heavy ion physics programs using the LHCb
experiment at the LHC, with emphasis on the search for
gluon saturation in pPb collisions through data analysis
of current data, design of a future high-level trigger for
isolated photons and R&D; for a scintillator-based
tracker to measure soft particles</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Study of semi-leptonic decays of charm and bottom quarks
in pp, pA and AuAu collisions at RHIC using data taken
with the Forward Vertex Detector in the PHENIX experiment</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Study of bottom-jet and B-meson physics using the future
sPHENIX experiment at RHIC through simulations.
Participation in detector R&D; for the proposed
MAPS-based vertex detector (MVTX) for sPHENIX.</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p>The candidate can participate in one or more of the topics
above. The postdoc term is for two years, with an option to
renew it for a third year. Outstanding candidates have a
chance to be considered for the prestigious Richard P.
Feynman, Darlene Christian Hoffman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or
Frederick Reines Fellowships at the Lab
(<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.lanl.gov/careers/career-options/postdoctoral-research/postdoc-program/distinguished-postdoc-fellows.php">http://www.lanl.gov/careers/career-options/postdoctoral-research/postdoc-program/distinguished-postdoc-fellows.php</a>)
. The postdoc will also have the opportunity to join other
parallel efforts that the team works on, including spin
physics and dark photon searches using the[MLB2] Fermilab
E1039 experiment, fast MAPS detector R&D; for the
electron-ion collider and applied programs throughout the Lab.</p>
<p>What You Need</p>
<p>Minimum Job Requirements:</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>experience with data analysis tools typically used for
nuclear and particle physics</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>experience with detector operation and R&D;</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>paper publication record in high energy nuclear physics
or particle physics</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p>Desired Skills:</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>good oral and written communication</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>creativity and independence in proposing new ideas and
experiments</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p>Education</p>
<p>: The applicant is required to have a Ph.D. in high-energy
particle or nuclear physics within the past five years, or
soon to be completed.</p>
<p>Notes to Applicants: In addition to applying on-line,
applicants should submit a resume and a brief description of
research interests to Cesar L. da Silva (<a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:cesarluiz@lanl.gov">cesarluiz@lanl.gov</a>).
Reference letters will be asked at a later stage of the
selection process. This position does not require a security
clearance, U.S. citizenship or residency. We particularly
encourage applications from under-represented groups in the
field; such as women, African-Americans, Native Americans,
Hispanics and Latin Americans. Consideration of applications
will begin August 1, 2018 and continue until the positions are
filled.</p>
<p>Additional Details:</p>
<p>Position does not require a security clearance. Selected
candidates will be subject to drug testing and other
pre-employment background checks.</p>
<p>New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful
applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and
maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug
testing.</p>
<p>Candidates may be considered for a Director's Postdoc
Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for
the prestigious Richard P. Feynman, Darleane Christian
Hoffman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines
Distinguished Postdoc Fellowships.</p>
