Subject: [Dcouncil] DEIA Council - the A

Hello fellow Council members-

Ernest and I did some investigating about the “A” in DEIA to ensure that we were all on the same page. This included reaching out to the head of DEIA at DOE, who referred us to this policy: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Strategic-Plan-to-Advance-Diversity-Equity-Inclusion-and-Accessibility-in-the-Federal-Workforce-11.23.21.pdf

As such, Aurora drafted the following to explain the addition of the “A” to the name. In the future, our DEIA information in the JLab Weekly will also include the A in the header to reflect this change.

ADDING THE "A" TO DEIA
The DEIA program is dynamic and evolving. As such, you may have noticed that the letter "A" was added to "DEIA" to represent accessibility. According to guidance from the DOE, accessibility means that the lab will strive to provide equitable access to facilities, information technology and communication resources, as well as programs and services, so that all people, including those with disabilities, can access and participate in the workplace. For questions, contact Aurora Realin<mailto:realin at jlab.org>.

Thanks,

Rebecca
