Dear colleagues,
Four points:
1/The next CLAS collaboration meeting (November 10th-13th) is
slowly approaching... And so is our Deep Processes working
group meeting. Let me know if you want to make a presentation.
2/I also remind you about the upcoming deadlines for PAC Proposals
and Letters of Intent. I copy below and stress the deadlines that Marco
has sent to the collaboration a few days ago:
PAC Deadline: 1 December, 2010
Proposal abstract to CLAS Chair: October 20
Proposal draft to CLAS Chair: November 3
LoI abstract to CLAS Chair: November 17
People who are planning to submit a proposal should probably make a
presentation at the working group meeting as well.
3/I have had to set up recently three or four review committees
(which is good news in itself). However, I have heard a couple of
complaints from analysis-note reviewers on the quality of the
analysis-notes (let me actually stress that this remark in fact extends
even to some previous/older analysis-notes and, the other way around, this
remark also doesn't apply to all the recent analysis-notes).
I don't want to mention any name here but some documents
provided were basicaly student's thesis (more than 200 pages) which were
simply given a new name. To quote one of the recent reviewers: "The little
time saved by not producing a proper document will be lost in the long process
of answering the questions and making the review committee more confident
in the analysis, and will also cost extra work to the analysis team and
this committee." This is clearly not efficient and not very respectful for
the people who kindly agree to be part of the analysis committees and who
take extra-time to make this great service work and favor to the
collaboration in reviewing other colleagues' data analysis.
Please, make an effort in providing proper documents.
4/I am still working on finding a new chairman for our DPWG, I'll get
back to you soon on this matter.
Amities,
Michel
