I am forwarding the final report of the committee from the detector
R&D.<br>
<br>
Unfortunately, it seems that the committee did not look at the
proposal to remind themselves of why high-pT physics, and thus
momentum coverage for PID, is important for the EIC program. It
seems that we will have to make sure to remind them at every
opportunity. It was a clear oversight on my part, but one that
should be easy to address. Clearly, the FDIRC as proposed for the
SuperB would not be sufficient to cover the requirements.<br>
<br>
Regarding comprehensive background simulations, I communicated in
private during dinner to our reviewer that Mike Sullivan is trying
to use the SLAC simulation package to set up a synchroton background
simulation that will include all the elements in the ring, not only
+/- X m around the IP, but this effort requires some further work on
the lattice before we have the final results. Since it did not make
it into the report, we will have to be more explicit about these
plans in the proposal update.<br>

The other comments (on page 8), seem to indicate some other minor
misunderstandings - for instance, we never claimed to have done
simulations with SiPMs - but in general seem to be very much in line
with what was presented. We will clearly have to reiterate our plans
for pursuing both a lens-based internal solution and a mirror-based
external one. There are also some more specific questions about
timing resolution, reconstruction algorithms in wide bars, dealing
with multiple hits, and motherboards for the MaPMTs that will
require more specific answers. Perhaps we could try to come up with
some of the answers for our next meeting?<br>

is the report from the Advisory Committee meeting this
past December. The updates and progress reports presented
at the meeting were extremely helpful. In addition to the
Committee's comments on individual presentations, the
report contains some important general remarks on the

Committee emphasizes a continued focus on specific
performance requirements for "golden measurements" at an
EIC, with machine and IR parameters given by the BNL and

next meeting of the Advisory Committee is being planned
for the May timeframe. The exact dates will be announced
