oops... one other remark: in principle, the "parity" will be defined by
the rotation angle of the skew quad, which is either +45 degrees or -45
degrees, looking either up-beam or down-beam... which translates into
either positive or negative skew quad when a positive (horizontally
focusing) normal quad is rotated.
So, there are only 8 possible combinations for any particular code... ;)
