[dsg-eic_dirc] EIC DIRC crate modifications - facilities management reply and path forward?

Hi Tyler,
I will check on the idea of using other materials than wood for parts fixing the cushion. In principle reinforcing the current boxes and replacing the screws with laches is not a word
work and hopefully could be still handled in JLab, only the cushion system would be done outside, right?
Cheers,
Greg

Subject: [dsg-eic_dirc] EIC DIRC crate modifications - facilities management reply and path forward?
Hello Greg and Beni,
I got a reply from Facilities Management's Wayne Williams about a few of the work requests we have submitted for EIC DIRC.
The main reply of concern is that Facilities does not have anyone specifically for carpentry work (like the crate modifications), and therefore recommends having the modifications contracted to a company outside of the lab.
With this, I have a two questions to help us start down the path to resolving the crate problems:
When do the crates have to be ready?
I know it's estimated that the quartz bars will be ready to ship at the end of October/beginning of November, but there has not been any concrete date set. The crates will also have to travel from JLab to SLAC.
Contracting the work out will take time and knowing the absolute deadline will help in making sure we get everything in time.
Do the interior supports have to be made of wood?
It might be quicker to modify any missing interior support to be made out of aluminum or other metal and order the parts online.
I have had good results using the online company SendCutSend for similar components.
Thanks!
-Tyler

Hello Tyler,
I have been out with Covid and have just returned today. I see that you have a couple of service requests in the system and I will try to address them here and will be glad to meet with you if necessary.
1st service request # 89018 Bldg 90 rm 108 EIC DIRC shipping crate modifications
We have not employed a carpenter for several years now. We are short on man power and and if we needed this type of work done we would contract it out to someone like Shoreline Construction.
2nd service request # 88998 Add key to EEL Keywatcher box
I make assign and track the keys but once the keys are electronically controlled that falls under access control. Russell Pitts or John Riesbeck will be the point of contact for this. They will add the key you presently have and program the keywatcher box to allow the access that your group desires. I have cc'd these men on this.
Thank you,
Wayne Williams

Hi Wayne,
We have a few Facilities Management tickets in and they all need at least a brief meeting with FM to go over them.
Al Portos responded to one of the tickets that you would be the contact for discussing the work but you are out sick this week.
We have a regular project meeting at 2:00pm on Monday October 2 in EEL 108 where we could discuss the work. Would you be able to come by around that time to discuss the work requests?
Thank you for any help you are able to give and I hope you're feeling better soon!
-Tyler
