Subject: [dsg-eic_dirc] EIC DIRC laser lab - successfully completed interlock system check and laser power on test

Hello,

Today, we performed a interlock system check and basic "power on" test of the laser in the EIC DIRC quality assurance (QA) lab.

The interlock system check involved reviewing the system and its operation with ES&H representatives and any users, and then exercising all of the interlocks to verify they work correctly.
Everything worked as expected and we were given approval to go ahead with the power on test of the laser.

For the power on test, we used a power meter and beam viewer with a webcam to remotely monitor the output of the laser from outside of the controlled area.
We tested both the 442-nm output and the 325-nm output of the laser.
The laser behaved as expected for both wavelengths.

With this successful test, we now can confirm that the laser works and at a minimum outputs a beam whose power is known.

The next step for the laser lab is to complete the EPAS for the quartz bar QA procedure.
Once that EPAS is completed, reviewed, and issued, we will schedule the final walk through and approval of the system.

-Tyler
