[Dsg-eic_tracker] EIC simulated beam line flow tests

Here's a link to a fairly large PDF for a MLI catalog.

https://www.sheldahl.com/sites/default/files/2020-02/RedBook.pdf

Page 29 has the aluminized kapton that I think we'll need to use. Most of the MLI at JLab already is probably the one with PET as the base which won't handle the heat we need to get to in our test stand since the lab mostly uses MLI for cryo applications.

The issue will be finding a vendor with something in stock (or reasonable lead time), at a size we need, and not a huge minimum order.

McMaster-Carr has some heat shielding tape that is kind of close to what we'd use (but has extra layer of fiberglass cloth and adhesive), so maybe that will be a fallback solution if we can't actually get just aluminized kapton easily.

Hi Marc,

this looks good, thanks for pushing this to reach the 100C in the beam pipe.
Now I guess we need to get and do the test also for this aluminized kapton
that Brian mentioned to us in a meeting yesterday. Overall promising. And
interesting, I am learning things and we should likely write this all up later
in an article.

Best regards, Rolf

Hi Patrizia and Rolf,

After discussing the matter with the EHS group (fire protection engineer, industrial hygiene, and pressure systems design authority), we determined that we could safely run the test stand at a higher temperature as long as we keep the safety interlock set well below the auto-ignition temperature of the mineral oil (300 C).

We increased the temperature of the test stand to around 210 C and made adjustments to the airflow to reach 100 C (RTD_D) on the beam pipe while cooling the inner surface of the outer pipe (silicon region) to ~30 C (RTD_A, B, and C).

Attached is the plot from yesterday's test. It looks like setting to heater to 210 C, with a flow of about 212 - 215 Lpm gets us right to those temperatures.

Have a great weekend,
Marc
