Hi Don,
Thanks for the update from the ERR. DSG will review this information and pass along any feedback concerning the heater controls.
Just for a time reference. What is the planned start date for GEnRP?
Additionally, we can start testing the controls after the channels have been segmented as previously described. Please let me know when this has been completed.
I will plan a zoom meeting for later this week to go over the controls software.
Marc

Subject: [Dsg-halla_ecal] ECal heater prototype
Hi Marc and Albert,
The ERR panel yesterday determined that we have to demonstrate the use of a prototype detector with our mature heater system in real beam conditions. Bogdan's suggestion is that we use our 6 supermodule prototype which we can place in the beam either in Hall C or in Hall A during GEnRP. To fulfill their requirements we will have to have a full temperature control system as well as signal readout for at least one supermodule.
What does this mean? Once the initial demonstration of Marc's control system concludes (this week?) we need to
* Instrument the prototype for full readout of all temperatures
* Implement temperature controls of the heaters along with shutoffs on high temperature (Marc may already have this completed?)
* Install new 300W strip heaters capable of reaching our required power at 50VDC
* Purchase cartridge heaters for the side aluminum bars (at least 50% of them) and drill the bars to hold them. This is an essential part of the finished ECal heater system, so we need to demonstrate that it works.
* Purchase adjustable voltage power supplies to drive and control the power output. I have purchased a single 480W 10A LED driver that should be able to supply up to 5 supermodules with adjustable voltage. (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/mean-well-usa-inc/HLG-480H-48B/7704122?s=N4IgTCBcDaIIwA4BsSC0YCsGyoHIBEQBdAXyA) Marc, when this arrives I will give it to you to see if it is going to work. It requires an adjustable 0-10V input to adjust the output between 0 and 48 VDC.
* Install the whole setup and test in Physics storage.
* Install in the Hall. This will require putting it on a table up near beam height. I think we should improve the prototype design by installing a full frame/box around it to make it safe to move as a unit.
Just wanted to get you thinking about this.
-Don
