[Dsg-halla_ecal] Controls installation update

I’ve largely wrapped up wooin hall b. I’ll start wrapping up the software the week after thanksgiving. The controls rack should be completed around that same time frame.

The PSICs are done and 10 of them are registered and ready for installation. We should have the rest of them registered during that week, the registration process is independent of our group.

Let’s see where we are around 12/10. The picture should be clearer at that point.

But it’s December, and it’s always difficult to nail down a schedule.

Hi Marc,
I just wanted to circle back to this email. Do you have a timeline for when you think the controls will be ready for testing the heater system? Right now I don't have the thermocouple cables run or the power cables, but that could happen as early as next week in an ideal scenario.

Hi Don,

Thanks for providing your plan. Give us a little time to review it and I am sure it will get worked out.

Hi Marc,
That sounds like good progress and the timing is great. I have been experiencing setbacks in timing on my end due to the fact that the platform for building the wall cannot yet be installed so I will not be able to start assembling the front insulated wall for another 10 days or so. That means it won't be light light until likely just before Christmas. In the meantime, I am doing whatever I can to make the process faster once the platform is installed.
With that schedule in mind, I am thinking that I will have the two side walls + top and bottom built sometime around the end of November or first week of December. At that point, we could stop and connect up the entire heating system and take 3 days to heat it up and test it with the front wall off in case we have issues and need access to address them. Of course, we won't know the real heating profile until we finish the front wall, but we could burn off everything and probably get close to the desired temperature. If it has too big of an impact on the rest of the installation, we can just take a risk and hold off testing it until the front wall is installed too. That would mean we test the system the third week of December just before the holidays.
My preference is to have the heating system up and running by the end of November if that is possible so that we have the flexibility to plan either way. Do you think that is reasonable?

Hi Don and Mark,

I just wanted to update you on the progress of the heater controls.

The 16th PSIC is currently being assembled and tested by Mindy Leffel and George Jacobs. Once, this is complete we will request an inspection for the labs Non-NRTL registration program before 16 PSICs can be installed on the power supply racks in the hall. Mindy and George will still work on the final four (spares) PSICs, but 16 is what we need for the system.

We may require some manpower help on relocating these to the hall, I will let you know if I think it is needed at that point. They are not heavy, but there are 16 of them.

The controls rack is approaching 75% completion, as Mindy is installing the last cRIO expansion chassis with short cables and thermocouple terminals.

The terminal blocks for cable shields and 24V distribution for the coils finally arrived. Next week, Mindy and I will work to install them in the rack for relay control.

Finally the controls software (48 channels control + 135 channel monitoring) is coming along, it is 40 to 50% complete. I may have that wrapped up by mid November. At that point we will need to coordinate with the hall techs to relocate the controls rack to the hall.

Don, I am looking at your change (less) in monitoring channels. I'll update the documents on my end and send you the results. This should not impact anything on software writing time.

Some of this timing has been briefly impacted by other Physics division controls work requests.

I am still looking at system testing around the thanksgiving time frame, but there may be some shift to this schedule.

Are there any "hard" dates in your scheduling that we need to be aware of? This will help DSG management prioritize our schedule...it is that time of the year where requests tend to pop up.

Regards,
Marc
