The reason i want the channels to cool down, is because we are verifying that the readback temperature is controlling the correct channel.

Hi Marc,
That list sounds reasonable. I plan to start installing the thermocouple cables tomorrow and will install the power cables as well once the PSICS are installed. I noticed that we don't have enough channel nuts for the aluminum extrusion and I hope this won't impact your ability to install the racks. Maybe we can find some sitting around someplace.
Bogdan and I were discussing it today and we decided it would be good to do an initial test of the heater system at a low level (50-60 degC as you suggest) as soon as we can. I see no reason that we need to do this zone by zone turning one off before testing the next. These low temperatures can be reached within a couple of minutes and it will be interesting/informative to see the response of the controls if all zones are active and maintaining a constant 50degC temperature.
See you tomorrow.
-Don

Hi Don,

This morning I noticed the controls rack, PSICs, and the first power supply tray were moved to the hall.

Before a heater test can be done there are tasks to be completed. The first three bullets can be done without the thermocouples or power cables.

  *
The main cRIO (counting house) is already on the 188 subnet, DSG will work on connecting the expansion modules (Hall A ECAL bunker) to the 188.
  *
DSG will install 16 PSIC chassis in the power supply racks and connect them to the controls rack
  *
DSG will install the safety system component tray in the controls rack and do a test to verify it's basic functionality (trips and latches on over temp, trips on loss of controls heartbeat signal, trips on power kill button action) independent of the controls system.
  *
Hall A needs to connect the heater power cables to the detector-side connections
     *
Hall A needs to route these cables to the controls rack area
  *
Hall A needs to connect the thermocouple cables to the detector-side connections
     *
Hall A needs to route these cables to the controls rack area
     *
You might consider routing the controls thermocouples (Heatcon 1 through 6) and the safety system cable in the first few runs as they are important for initial heating tests
  *
DSG will connect the thermocouple and heater power cables to the controls system and PSIC
  *
After the cables are connected DSG will start integrating the controls software
     *
Any debugging will be performed at this step
  *
When the controls system is online and functioning, DSG and can perform a low temperature heating test
     *
This process involves heating up the channels to a safe temperature (50 degrees) and observing the channel readback and then cooling down that channel before moving to the next channel

DSG will start on the first two points tomorrow. I will update the mailing list with the progress.

Regards,
Marc

Subject: ECAL heater controls status

Hi Don,

With the work year coming to an end I just wanted give a quick status of the heater controls for the ECAL.My last day will for the year will be 12/18, and I'll return after the holiday break.

The controls rack has been assembled with all four expansion channels, with ~190 thermocouple terminal blocks for channel control, crystal and lightguide temperature readback. Additionally, there are 16 PSICs in EEL 125 ready to be moved to Hall A.

I am planning on wrapping up the shelf with the safety system components tomorrow. The shelf contains the 3 omegas for over-temperature safety, the watchdog relay, a power relay, and a connection for the hall emergency crash button. The emergency crash button for the hall has a pass-through connection which will be connected the emergency crash button in the counting house (after it has been installed). DSG will install the safety system shelf in the controls rack after it has been relocated to Hall A.

The main cRIO has been reinstalled in the counting house. A service request has been submitted to add it and all the other cRIO expansion units, plus a switch to the Hall A network.

I also have touched bases with the Hall A work coordinator and have been assured that moving the controls rack, the PSICs, and a shelf with three of the power supplies will happen at the appropriate time.

When I return, I will start by testing the safety system to ensure it works with the heater controls in the hall.

At some point your group will have connected and run the heater power cables and thermocouple multi-condutors to the bunker and DSG can start connecting and testing the controls before we actually heat the system up.

Before we start testing, lets plan a meeting to discuss low temperature testing and start up procedure after everyone returns from the holiday shutdown.

Regards,
Marc
