Hi Chuck,

Sounds good. I'll be there too but I'll be a little late like 10, 15 mins I think.

 Hi Anu,

As we determined Friday there is a leak in the gas panel due to a bad quick connect fitting - tubing was leaking, then popped out while performing a pull test, would not stay in under pressure. Seems to be the fitting is not grabbing onto the wall of the tubing.

I will replace the fitting this morning and we can proceed with running the lines to the chambers. I will be over there around 10am.

Hi Kondo,

Okay yeah this calculation makes sense to me. So I think for the 5 units flow rate, it's equivalent to (300 cc/min)/4 = 75 cc/min which is the flow that we have been flushing our modules on Nitrogen when we are keeping them idle.
We will try and set the flow rate to that value.
However, we will not be able to start flushing the modules in the TEDF with Nitrogen today as it seems like for a 4 x 100 cc/min flow rate, the gas bottle is being consumed way more quickly than it's supposed to. Chuck said he will have to troubleshoot about what's going on and we didn't want to hook up the modules in that situation. We'll give you an update on Monday.

Hi Anu,

That's a good question. I remember we went through this many years ago but I don't remember the details

What I know is that when you are at 20 units, it is equivalent to 5 volume change / hour of our GEM chambers

The volume of the GEM is rougly 5 x 6 x 0.12 l = 3.6 l

so this will give you 5 x 3600 cc / 60 mm = 300 cc / min

I hope I did not make any mistake in my calculations. This should be pretty close to the actual numbers

Kondo

Hi Kondo,

Sounds good. This is something I should know but do you know what's the unit of flow meters we use in our clean room. It doesn't show any units and I always used numbers printed on them to say the flow rate.

The ones we have here in the TEDF are marked in cubic centimeters(cc)/min.
If you can jist give a value that you would like to flow in cc/min, I guess that would be fine too.

Hi Anu,

Thanks for taking care of it.

Before starting flushing, if you are doing it today, please be very careful with the flow rate. Again we are not really familiar with the new system. But of course you have a lot of experience with this and also Chuck will be there to help

Best regards

Kondo

Chuck,

Please let me know a good time for you (either Monday or even today afternoon) and I can work with you to hook the GEMs up to the gas supply and start flushing them.

Hi Anu,

We have been given the green light to connect the gas supply to our BB GEM layer in TEDF. So it will be great if you could see with Chuck to have the system hooked up by Monday afternoon, so that we could get support from Marc to run the monitoring software before the Xmas break

Per Marc indication, we should hooked our chambers to the flow-meter channels #1 to #4 with the system installed in the rack. At the beginning we will have to operate at very low flow rate to make sure that we really understand the flow going into the chamber.

I plan to be at JLab on Monday or Tuesday depending on the status of the Alu frames here at UVa but go ahead anyway with the gas connection

Best regards

Kondo

Dear Jack,

The Marc Mullen from DSG group has just set up the SBS gas system prototype for us in the TEDF highbay area to try it out on the UVa GEM layer we just recently installed in Bigbite frame.

We would like to notify to that we are now ready to connect the gas supply to the GEM chambers and seek your approval to proceed.

We are planning to use a gas cylinder and regulator system identical to the one we have installed for the commissioning of the UVa GEM layers in EEL124 clean room and set up for us by Chuck. This system will be hooked up to the monitoring system installed by Marc to supply the BB GEM chambers.

Please let us know if there is any step we need to take before going ahead with connecting the system to our chambers. Ideally we would like to have N2 flowing into the chambers before the xmas break

Hi Marc,

With Chuck help today, we moved the rack in the TEDF building where the Bigbite frame is located (where our GEM layer is installed). I don't really know the room number of the area but maybe Chuck could help me out here

Chuck also has prepared the gas cylinder to be used for the test and I believe everything is ready to go. So when you are available, we can go ahead with the installation.

I am not at JLab tomorrow so if you plan to work tomorrow, Chuck could help also. if not, I will be back at JLab on Thursday and we can plan accordingly

Please let me know

Best regards

Kondo

Kondo,

You are correct, the distribution rack is located in EEL 125, near Chuck's gas bottles. They do need to be moved to the test location in the TEDF.

Please let me know, where that location is in the TEDF (room number).

As far as calibrating, I believe you just want to connect your old flow meters in-line to check if the flow values match. You may need to get with Jack (system owner) on that for those kind of questions.

let me know if you have any questions or when the distribution panel is moved and I'll make arrangements for the software start up.

Hi again Marc,

Just to clarify a few things once again. So right the rack is in EEL125 and you want us to move it to TEDF right?

I can see that with Chuck tomorrow then

Then after that I will have to get in touch with you for setting the raspberry pi and the associate software.

We will have to also set up a mechanism to calibrate the gas flow meter that you provide with the one we were using in EEL124 clean room.

Can we install temporarily one of our flow meter on the panel to perform this calibration?

Bets regards

Kondo
