[Dsg-halla_gem] DSG-Hall A GEM meeting

Hi Marc,

I will try to answer your questions:

  1. We run CAEN A1515BTG in CAEN SY5527 crates. We had one brand new SY5527 that could not properly broadcast epics process variables for the HV cards. I swapped the CPU to verify that the crate still was unable to do this. CAEN sent me a back a long list of things to troubleshoot using parts from a good crate and swapping in this crate. Also we had 2 A1515BTG modules that had intermittent behavior of not reaching the desired voltage. If someone could help trouble shoot with CAEN, this would be great. My time is pretty compressed preparing the GEMs for the LAD experiment and GEp to spend troubleshooting these crates. We need the crates working for the experiment though.
  2. I don’t have a procedure for testing and repair of the GEMs. This is covered by our ePAS for all of our work we do on the GEMs in Hall A. All the work will take place in the Hall. If someone from DSG will help us here, then they will learn how to test the low level APV connections and how to test and remove HV inputs to shorted sectors. We will likely also have to swap a few of the GEM modules. This is not a task that would be done independently by someone from DSG, but I can say that due to the difficulties of working in the Hall and access to the GEMs, this takes a lot of time. If DSG can support us, we would welcome it, but if you prefer more stand alone tasks, then see 1 and 3.
  3. Yes, this gas question is what we already discussed. Move BB GEMs to the SBS gas distribution line.

Thanks,
Holly

Hi Holly,

I have put some questions in-line with your description of the work. Can you look at this and respond. We will review it with DSG management tomorrow.

High voltage:

-this all exists and just needs to be mounted, relabeled and moved around (I will do this)

-DSG could help to manage testing and returns of a few of the CAEN units we have trouble with.

Are these crates, modules or both. What type of modules. Is there is a list of module types and what the issues may be?

GEMs:

-De-cable BB and SBS (1 week/side—starting after Memorial Day)

-BigBite GEMs can be removed one at a time and slid into the assembly frame. Check for shorts, remove shorts, and repair any bad APVs. We have a team of experts who can do this.

-SBS GEM inline stack needs to be craned from SBS platform early June.

-Tech support with crane needed to slide each layer out one at a time for repairs. Need two tables setup to hold the GEM being tested. Estimate 4-6 weeks for repairs and reassembly. DSG could get involved here to expedite testing and setup of the GEMs on a table.

Is there a procedure to review for this that we can review? If so can you send us a link to the document? Also, will this testing be in the hall or EEL?

-Cabling and moving the BB crates to the SBS crate tower (2 weeks). DSG can help here greatly with manpower and strain relief of cables.

Gas system:

-All lines needs to be moved to SBS distribution system. DSG initially setup this system, and it would be great if they could do this for us.

Is this the BB move we discussed in the last meeting? Is the task reroute the supply line and connect the channels?

Will the channel lines move with the BB GEMs, and need reconnection in the new location?

Regards,
Marc

I pushed the meeting to 12:45. I will try to prepare a pre-read and get that out this evening so the meeting will go faster.
