Hello Simona,

Last night I just got the SolidWroks files converted to STEP files, now I can open then with NX or SpaceClaim software. We had to use one of the standalone SolidWork license (From Dan Spell) in the Lab for the conversion.

Since all the sent files by Incom Inc. are 3D models, I'm adding the dimensions and orthographic projections.
Once this is done, I'll generate and send the pdf versions.

Hello Simona,

No, I don't have SolidWorks, but we should be able to open '.sldprt' files with NX 12(Siemens CAD software).

I went ahead and tried to open these files with NX but I got an error, it might be related with the version of the NX12 software, I need to make sure that the NX version used is new or newer than the version of the sent SolidWorks file.

I'll contact Todd to check for the latest NX version available for CAD users in the lab or to confirm if we have access to SolidWorks.

Do you have access to SolidWorks software? The attached files are the LAPPD layouts but I cannot view them because I don't have SolidWorks. I can put it on my laptop, if the lab has a license for it.

If you are able to render the attachments, can you save various layers as pdfs so I can also see it?

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the heads-up. The controller will be outside the dark box. If the noise comes from the stepper motors themselves then I guess I will have to have them off once the light source is in position or build a shield as you suggested. There's already a PR in to get the assembly (meaning a Purchase Order will be created by JLab shortly). I attach it.

I think I should get everything by mid-December. I am working with Pablo (JLab engineer) to build a support for it and then calibrate the motion system. Once that's done I can look on the scope at the LAPPD signals with light off while the motion assembly is operating and check for noise.

Hi Simona:

You have probably already considered noise from a stepper motor, but can you borrow a sample of this stepper motor system, to see if it radiates RF noise?

Federica Oliva at the University of Edinburgh has a stepper motor system in her dark box, and it is so noisy that she cannot leave it on during measurements. It seems like the RF comes from the motors themselves.

We use a pulse width modulated motor controller, with a motor shaft position monitor. We still had to put the motor controller in a closed metal box to suppress the radiation it created, but that worked.

If your motors radiate RF, you might be able to individually enclose them in a shield to contain the noise.
