Hi Gabriel and Bob,
The ALERT DC and BoNuS target controls are currently online and working.
The BoNuS target controls were used to pressurize the gas line which feeds the target straw (although the straw is not connected).
The ALERT DC controls are operating in auto-mode and holding pressure in the system to a set point of 47 mbar above atmosphere. I have run the following tests:
1.
Raise the DC pressure manually to exceed the low pressure fault (ensuring manual control works)
2.
Set the system to auto and observed it increasing pressure to a set point of 47 mbar
3.
Changing the set point to 55 mbar and observed the system increase pressure in the DC to 55 mbar and hold
4.
Change the set point back to 47 mbar and observed the system decrease pressure in the DC back to 47 mbar and hold
5.
Intentionally release the target straw gas pressure to cause a fault, observe the DC controls release the pressure in the system at the max of the exhaust MFC (500 sccm)
6.
Re-pressurized the target straw circuit to 40 psi, observed the DC controls clear the target straw low pressure fault and return to automated control and return to the last set point (47 mbar)
Bob can now leak check the system. I'll contact Bob on Monday about operating the system.
Regards,
Marc

Hi Gabriel,
We are currently integrating the ALERT DC gas controls used in the EEL to the cRIO controller in the hall. We have read back from the sensors. Right now we are working on the solenoid control for ALERT and BoNuS. Then we will start pressure control of the panel.
It may take a few days to get it up and running.
After that Bob will do some leak checks.
I’ll provide updates as the project progresses.
Regards,
Marc

Hi Marc,
We will have an ALERT meeting today where I'd like to report on your progress with the gas system for ALERT.
Can you give me an update of what you've been able to complete this week, please?
Sometimes Bob attend the meeting too, so if you've already agreed that Bob will give the update, don't bother sending me an email.
Have a nice day,

Hi Gabriel,
The panel was moved to hall b earlier this week. DSG is working with hall b engineering and mechanical to connect the instrumentation and get the system running.
I expect this to be done in the early part of the coming week.
We will also have the pressure and flows (for the ALERT DC and Target straw) sent to archived process variables which you can monitor through Mya.
I’ll send an update next week as the system progresses.
Regards,
Marc

Hello,
As you probably know the panel is now inside the Hall and ready to be set.
The temporary setup installed by Bob was very helpful but of course the lack of controls forces us to check that everything is fine everyday.
Even when I was on site, I did not do it properly: I did see a bottle was empty and then didn't see that the flow meter was closed.
It is anyway not possible to know immediately when a bottle is empty. With the new system this kind of problem will be avoided.
Hence I'm going to wait that the gas system is accessible via EPICS. So please, whevener you have time, can you work on it?
Bob, right now everything is opened as I was still running HV tests tonight. HV are now off.
Can you close the flow meter please? And then fill the Hall pipes with N2 at twice the atmospheric pressure. That will keep water away and speed up the restart process.
See you when the beam will be in Hall B,

Hi Bob,
I am working on integrating the ALERT DC controls software to the cRIO in the hall. It will take a few days to get it up and running and tested.
Whenever the panel moves, Brian will asses the hardware connections needed and get with DSG staff so the pressure sensors, the solenoid, and the pump are connected as I am working on the software.
Please keep us updated on the panel movement.
Regards,
Marc

Hi Denny,
When do you expect to install the gas panel next to ALERT?
Hi Marc,
When do you expect the gas panel to be functional in the Hall?
Thanks,

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [ALERT] Purge the gas line
Hi Bob,
As we discussed yesterday, would it be possible to start purging the Hall B gas line? As per the current schedule, ALERT detector will be at the beam level on Thursday. It's probably a good point to start purging then.
In case the installation is taking longer we could stop purging over the weekend and leave 2 atmospheric pressure in the tube.
What do you think?
Have a nice day,
