Hi Probir,

I don't know how long the installation and configuration of the new network switch would take since computer center handles those parts.

If everything goes smoothly, our part (moving the network connection, making new network cables if needed, and testing) could be done in one day.

Since the PLCs rely on network connection for communicating to several remote devices for cryogenic monitoring, it would be best if we allotted additional time after the swap in the event that cryogenics are significantly affected by the temporary loss of network.

Thanks for the update on the N/w switch.
I agree, we must get one as my recommendation for the additional network switch, as discussed and agreed in the past.
Please gain remind the team, how long will this take to put/add and test before we say all done and completed in the system.
Known with the timeline, will request Marco and Denny I/Bob M if any down time will be available before Dec2021.

Hello,

Back in February 2020, we had an issue with the Solenoid and Distribution Box controls' networking that prompted us to look into getting an additional network switch put in the racks so the Solenoid and DBX controls would be on separate network switches, but at the time, I guess computer center didn't have any switches on hand. The computer center request and correspondence is below.

Is this something that we would still want?

I'm guessing that we would want to wait until the next extended down period before changing any controls setup, but we could get computer center to reserve a network switch since it took 1.5+ years for them to finally get one.

Hi Andrew,

Sorry for the long delay in my reply.

We'd like an additional switch in that area since there are two controls systems (Hall B Solenoid and Hall B Distribution Box) that are connected to network in that switch. The goal would be to have the Solenoid and Distribution Box on different network switches to prevent an issue with one switch from taking out two systems.

It's okay if it takes a while for the switch to be installed. I wanted to get the incident report in in case it did just take a while to get the switch in. It's also fine if the installation doesn't take place until after the on-going run is completed.

Sorry, I didn't see this ticket until today...

Is that bethsw8? Yesterday we replaced that switch so all of the ports should now be good. I count 6 free auto-vlan ports, is that enough? We don't really have a good switch to give you right now, we'd have to get one.
