The recent solenoid fast dump was due to low LCW flow to the solenoid power supply during a LCW pressure change due to operating the Moller power supply.

Krister Bruhwel, Dave Kashy, and Bob Miller went to the Hall this morning to investigate the issue. It was discovered that 2 LCW bypass valves on the solenoid power supply were open, which reduced the flow to the solenoid power supply. The valves were closed and administrative tags were placed on these valves and the bypass valves on the Torus power supply.

A flow meter was previously installed on the LCW supply to the solenoid power supply. When we entered the Hall, the flow was 21 gpm; the trip threshold of the solenoid power supply is 20 gpm. The LCW pressure oscillations due to the operation of the Moller power supply caused the flow to vary between 19-21 gpm. After the bypass valves were closed, the flow was 30 gpm, and varied between 29-31 gpm with the Moller power supply operating. Therefore, we now have a 9 gpm flow margin against a power supply trip.

The flow to the Moller power supply was also reduced from 34 gpm to 24 gpm by installing and adjusting a metering valve on the LCW supply to the Moller power supply. The flow could not be reduced any more due to interlocks in the power supply. Krister will contact Dynapower to see if the power supply can be changed to constant LCW flow.

The LCW Hall pressure regulating valve is still slow to react. I had to increase the set point of the secondary regulating valve from 140 psi to 145 psi to allow the system to recover to the system pressure of 130 psi.
