Hi Rusty and Suresh,

Our collaborators from INFN (Italy) are having an "under the
hook lifting device" fabricated here in the US at one of the
Jlab procurement approved welder/fab shops. Below is the
information I got from the EH&S manual on requirements for a
device to be used here at the lab.

Due to cost, they will probably have the load test done by Hall
B Mechanical/Engineering and I have asked them to have the final
design reviewed by Bob Miller to make sure that the design
passes Jlab standards.

Is there anything else which would need to be done that I might
be overlooking?

I have attached the .pdf of the preliminary files INFN used for
RFQs.

Regards,

Marc

Marco,

I am not sure if you are going to wait for any further quotes
before going forward with the selection. But, when you ask the
vendor to "re-quote" to satisfy your requirements, the vendor
will need specific details about information/documentation you
need in your final quote (Or they will just send the same
quote).

Doug has provided some information to help us fulfill some of
the Jlab requirements for approved use at JLab. In his email,
he is referring to specifications that need to be followed by
the designer and fabrication shop:

The shop was selected from the Jlab approved fabricators
list for welding/brazing.

A qualified Professional Engineer (PE) must approve/design
the "Below The Hook Lifting Device" in accordance with ASME
B30.20, ASME BTH-1.

When requesting the requote you should ensure that the
fabrication shop meets these criteria

You may want a JLab PE to review the drawing, prior to
manufacturing.

Bob may be able to review (If he has not already done
it) this if you can provide him with the final drawings
(after parts have been converted from metric components
to the closest English standard)

The fabrication shop must label the device with the
following information:

Manufacturer's Name

Manufacturer's Address

Serial Number

Lifter Weight, if over 100lbs (45Kg)

Rated Load

We will need to do a load test at Jlab or the shop will
have to do it and label it as such.

We should ask the fabrication shop how much this would
cost, maybe it is not expensive.

Hall B is qualified to do this test

I will try to find out if there are other requirements or
documentation needed for the stiffener.

Thanks,

Marc
Hi Doug,
So far all we have done is contacted fab shops for quotes. We asked Bob for advice on getting a better price, and are following his suggestion, he also suggested having the load test done here at the lab, should CE be contacted prior to manufacturing?
Thanks,
Marc
