Amrit,

Tom did respond with a phone call. They use nitrogen boil-off for
the Bcal and will be using it for the DIRC. For filtering they
use a staged approach because they are worried about clogging
their final stage 0.01 micron.

13 micron oil/water filter

7 micron particulate filter

0.5 micron particulate

0.01 micron for the final stage.

I have requested technical documentation on their system.

We use a charcoal purifier and then a high flow 0.01 micron
filter (60scfm@100psi), which removes oil vapor, particles, smoke
and water. Filter change is possible and straight forward, We will
look into the change out frequency.

George is working on providing answers to Tyler's questions.

Hello,

We have the following questions in regards RICH's
gas systems:

Nitrogen Purge

1.) How pure should the nitrogen supplied to
RICH be?

2.) How many ppm of water can the nitrogen
supply have?

3.) What is the purity of Hall B's nitrogen
boil-off?

4.) What is the purity of the RICH nitrogen
after it passes through the filtering on the RICH gas
panel?

5.) What is the procedure to swap the nitrogen
filters on the RICH gas panel?

6.) How often do we need to change the nitrogen
filters on the RICH gas panel?

7.) How do we know that the filter is working
correctly and the nitrogen supplied to RICH is pure?

8.) For a back-up nitrogen system in case we
lose supply from Hall B's main boil-off source, how
can we fill the dewar?

8.1.) Could the dewar be placed outside
in an area where it could be easily filled and then
have a line run into Hall B?

8.2.) Would it be best to use high
purity nitrogen bottles instead of a dewar to avoid
having to refill a dewar?

Transportation to Hall B

9.) How will we ensure RICH aerogel does not
absorb moisture as RICH is transported to Hall B? We
could set up a high-purity nitrogen gas bottle to
supply nitrogen to RICH on its trip to Hall B.

10.) What is the purity of the nitrogen in a
high-purity nitrogen bottle?

11.) What is the cost and lead time for buying
high-purity nitrogen bottles?

Air-cooling

12.) Do we need any filtering on air supplied by
the Atlas Copco compressor?

13.) Could/should we install a desiccant on the
gas panel to make sure that the cooling air is dry?

14.) Will we need a chiller to make the supplied
cooling air colder to increase cooling capacity?

15.) Do we plan to monitor for condensation on
the air-cooling manifold?

16.) Do we plan to install anything near the
air-cooling manifold to absorb any condensation to
prevent it dripping on the electronics?

Please let us know any thoughts on the above
questions.

Best regards,

Tyler
