For reference, the gas tubing epoxied to the detector front plate are all at least 20 cm long and have push-pull connectors. The RTD temperature probes mounted in the detector have about 40cm of cable length. I can send exact lengths and pictures later today.

Dear all,

the cables in question are for the temperature sensors that are installed on the front face of the RTPC, just like the gas tubing. Hence, the total length from the detector to the gas panel will have to be similar to that for the TOTAL length of gas tubing. As Bob pointed out, this actually is made of 2 parts - from the detector to an interconnect at the SVT mount, and from there to the gas panel. I hope that either Bob or Cyril can provide us for the actual lengths of BOTH parts, which we will have to add together for the total length of cabling needed to the gas panel. I suspect it will be a bit more than 15’, because of the “obstacles” that Carlos mentioned. We can then have one interconnect on the gas panel and then have the 2nd set of cables from there to the electronics, which Bob already has the length of.

The gas tubing length discussed below is from the gas panel to the SVT mount, where the gas lines will have a bulkhead fitting. There will be separate gas lines from the bulkhead fitting to the detector.

I don't know where your detector cables are starting, or ending. Therefore, I don't know if basing their lengths off of the gas line lengths is appropriate.

Hello Carlos,

During the test of new gas panel, Bill Crahen sent this about the length of the tubing:

"I just talked to Cyril, and he shows a straight line distance of about 11', so figure perhaps 15' actual length, and shorten your supply line to match.”

So Bill and Bob made the tubing of gas panel at EEL accordingly. I have also cc’ed Bill Crahen, so he might answer it correctly if anything changed!!

Thank you,
Jiwan

allow me to rephrase Brian,

the requested length of the cables SHOULD be (approximately) the same as the length of the gas tubing between the detector and the panel. Since that distance is not the shortest one due to all the obstacles and provisions between those elements (panel and detector), both (cable and tubing) will share the same path and will be quite longer than the evident path.

I think that length is already (more or less) well determined, but unknown for many, including me.

Cheers

Bob has already provided the length between the electronics and the gas panel, so that part is established.

As for the connectors I only ordered enough for 1 level of disconnect.

What we don't have yet is the length from the panel to the detector.

Dear Brian,

we briefly discussed this issue at today’s BONuS12 engineering meeting. Basically, there are several possible intermediate steps to consider: The cables that are fixed to the probes should have connectors for easy installation together with the RTPC. The second step would be from those connectors to the gas panel. Finally, my understanding is that the crate containing the electronics for the gas system controllers will be some distance away (but on the same space frame level), on the North Side. (Nathan, please correct me if I’m wrong). I don’t know what that distance is, but maybe some of the other people cc’d on this email can answer.

Greetings - Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

Do you have this information? If you have the length between the gas panel and the detector I can just add that to the length Bob is providing.

Who is fabricating the RTD cable? I'd assume we (DSG) are, but best to make sure before we order anything.

Thanks

Hi Brian,

I can get you a cable length for the gas panel tomorrow.

Please contact Sebastian Kuhn about detector cables. He was in the Hall last week and came up with a plan, I don't know if he considered RTDs.

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Is there a distance for the cables calculated yet?

We need one for the cables between the cRIO (on SFL1N that we moved to) and the gas panel and also one for the cRIO to the detector itself (for RTDs).

Thanks
