[Dsg-hallc_controls] UPS status

Hi Steve,

If UPS fault signals were chained together as suggested, a cable would need to be run from the counting house UPS to the SHMS PLC inside Hall C to be able to separately monitor the counting house UPS on SHMS PLC.

We will not be able to use an Ethernet tag from the HMS PLC because that UPS status would be a summary that includes the HMS detector hut UPS.

If this cable to the SHMS PLC cannot be ran, we can:
Option 1.) Use one additional digital input channel to separately monitor each of HMS's UPS units, allowing just the counting house UPS status to be sent to SHMS PLC with the Ethernet tag.
Option 2.) Use the chained-together "HMS UPS Fault" status that includes both the counting house UPS and the HMS detector hut UPS for the SHMS. This would cause the SHMS PLC to indicate a fault if the HMS detector hut UPS goes bad.

Please let us know which (run cable to SHMS PLC, Option 1, or Option 2) is preferred so we can complete this task this week.

Best regards,
Tyler

Hi Tyler,

1. By chaining the two different UPS interlock signals together, for each spectrometer, the number of I/O channels needed is reduced. No need for two tags when only one I/O channel is being used. Debugging and finding faults is not too encumbered by chaining them together as they are only two UPS per spectrometer. Try finding the bad reading of 24 kliks-on temperature switches chain together as a comparison.

2. Do not know. IF they are not, then they need to be wired and properly documented on a drawing.

3. It could be either an ethernet tag or a tag in the Kepserver database (right Mike?)

4. There are 24V psu unit sources in the PLC rack upstairs, and in each I/O rack for each spectrometer. Care must be taken not to use 24V from different sources for the PLC UPS.

Thanks
Steven

Hi Steve,

I have a few questions/comments on you email.

1.) Should there be a single tag that encompasses faults on either the PLC UPS (upstairs in counting house) or the I/O UPS (down in hall)?

2.) Is the wiring to the I/O UPS units in the hall to the appropriate PLC channels complete?

3.) Since there are no SHMS I/O channels upstairs in the counting house, should the PLC UPS status be read by the HMS PLC and passed to the SHMS PLC as an ethernet tag? If this is not the case, has the cabling between the PLC UPS upstairs and the SHMS I/O channel downstairs been ran?

4.) A 24 V power supply is needed to generate the signal that indicates a UPS fault for the PLC UPS. Is there one available to install in the rack next to the UPS and dsub-to-terminal-block adapter on the second floor of the counting house?

Best regards,
Tyler

Hi,

There are three UPS being used for the HallC control systems that need to watched and acted upon.

HMI I/O UPS
SHMS I/O UPS
HMS and SHMS PLC UPS

For the HMS. The status of the I/O UPS was originally planned to be read by the rotation rack I/O chassis, module 3 channel 13. This is still available and one could add the HMS PLC UPS status in series to the HMS I/O UPS status.

Now for the SHMS, a new module, IB16D, should be added to the HX chassis, slot 6 to read the SHMS I/O UPS and SHMS PLC UPS (same UPS as the the HMS but a different relay contact) in series to one another.
