Hello Jack, Steve and Mike,

With regards to task #2 of the PLC Tasks list (PLC - Test Ethernet vs ControlNet interface), DSG suggests the swapping of the recent faulted PLC 1756-CN2/B ControlNet by a 1756-EN2T Ethernet module.

Faulted ControlNet PLC module is located in the SHMS HX PLC chassis at the Q1 rack. This ControlNet PLC module is the one that has presented the most recent communication issues according to the logbook entries.

EN2T Ethernet module that is being used now in the Standalone PLC chassis (TED building) can be used for this test; or maybe a new EN2T module, which has an approximate cost of $ 2550 can be ordered.

For the test, the plan would be as follow:

    1. Assign new IP address for the EN2T module on the Hall C subnet.
    2. Swap ControlNet module by EN2T module.
    3. Run/Install Ethernet cable from the EN2T PLC module to available port at Hall C subnet switch.
    4. Modify and configure SHMS PLC program (.ACD file). This action will require SHMS PLC go off line, since the addition of the EN2T hardware module to the PLC project only can be made off-line.
    5. Upload changes in the SHMS PLC program.
    6. Test communications and proper I/O data transfer from HX PLC chassis to SHMS PLC controller chassis.

Changes and configurations in the PLC program would not take much longer than 20 min.

To perform a complete test and verify if the radiation has less affection over the 1756-EN2T PLC module, will be required wait until the next beam run period.

Best Regards,

Pablo
