Hi Xiangdong,

To my knowledge, we were declined the privilege, by the computer center, to build the Rack 1 computer the same way as the Rack 2 computer. Peter is out of the office until Tuesday; when he returns I will speak with him to see if there is anything we can do.

Regards,
Amanda

Hi Amanda,

Thank you very much for logging in the Rack 1 computer, now I can proceed the shunt test.

Here is my thought for the login issue:

Both HDice NMR Racks will be used in several locations with several cryostats interchangeably, and monitored by shift takers during experimental periods. It is really important that the 2 NMR computers were built the same way so we could swap the racks without glitch. So far we, the HDice group, could never successfully have computer center to build any computer (for experimental or office use) without a lot of connection constrains and biannual password changing. It would be really hard keep track the login password of a spare rack if it's not on the network for a while. It took many months (and a few meetings with IT and their chain of command) to re-config the IBC computer connecting to the BlueJeans conferencing, after moving back to HDice Lab from Hall-B.

Could you please help us to rebuild the Rack 1 computer just like the the one on Rack 2, with or without the DSG login? We can provide the labors for that work.

Thanks again for you time and help.

Regards,

Xiangdong

Hi Xiangdong,

I logged into Rack 1 and there does not appear to be anymore updates that are required.

The Rack 2 computer was built differently than the Rack 1 computer. The Rack 1 computer was built by the computer center and will require them to create a general account that can be used by that computer. The Rack 1 computer will not need to have the DSG login, as we can use the HDIce login account when the computer center sets it up.

Amanda

Hi Amanda,

Would you please help me to login the HDice Rack 1 computer and finish the windows' update?

After finishing the updates, I'll contact IT group to change the login mode so the HDice group can access the computer after each reboot.

Since the DSG setup the Rack 2 computer with two login accounts, DSG and HDice, and it has been worked ever since, is that easier for the DSG to setup the Rack 1 computer the same way so the HDice group can swap those two racks smoothly? Could you revisit this issue?

Thanks again for your help.

Best regards,

Xiangdong

Subject: Re: [dsg-hdice] NMR averaging and standard deviation

Hi Amanda,

Thank you very much for the message, I'll start playing the new rack with the CT-Box. Could you please send the data file for the two attached plots so I can do further analysis? As soon as we cool down the PD-I (in ~1 week), I will measuring the NMR the new rack.

There is one setback:

When preparing the PD-I in HDice lab yesterday morning, I noticed that the display of control computer on the new NMR rack was black. After stroking the SHIFT Key, the infamous Windows Blue Screen shown up, indicating a computer crash (see the attached picture IMG_3503).

As you mentioned 2 weeks ago, this computer requires the smart card to login (see attached picture IMG_3504), so I'm stuck and need your help.

Would you please:
1). Investigate what caused the crash?
2). Change the login settings to USING PASSWORD, so we (the HDice group) can get access to the computer all the time, especially in the night, weekends and holidays, to measure the target polarizations while on shift? Given the long and complicated target production process, the reliability and accessibility of the NMR rack are extremely important, which sometimes can become the only factor for saving the target.

Thanks again for the efforts you and the DSG group spent on this project, we will always count on your support.

Best regards,

Xiangdong

Hi Xiangdong,

Averaging was implemented for the CT-box field values in the NMR program and is ready to be tested. The program was run for 1,000 cycles and the standard deviation of the field values was analyzed. Attached is a zoomed-in picture of a part of the average field values, showing the respective points' standard deviation over the 1,000 cycles. The average standard deviation was 0.55 G.

Amanda
