Hi Mike,

For clarification purposes, we're directly answering your
three questions listed below:

1) Yes this is intentional for the two HDice computers (NMR
and pump cart) DSG has most recently worked on. All
computers that use the Jlab LabVIEW group license will have
the number (Z71M58668). Regarding the older computers that
run LabVIEW 2009, DSG has not updated these machines to the
group license.

2) Anyone at Jlab can upgrade LabVIEW using the common group
license number. See previous email for details.<br

3) Adding a machine to the Jlab LabVIEW group license uses
the same procedure as an upgrade. See previous email for
details.
Subject: Labview licenses
Hello Amanda,
I made a recent survey of the PC's in the HDice
lab and found that four of them are running Labview with
licenses from the DSG. The DF (BASS-PC) and
PD (HDiceCountingRoom) are running Labview 2009SP1 with
license M63X37916. The IBC (HDiceExp) has Labview
2014SP1 with license Z71M58668 and the NMR rack (HDicePC2)
has several versions, the most recent Labview2016 all with
the same license as the IBC.
1) Is this what the DSG group intends?
2) How can we do upgrades?
3) Can we add an additional machine (HDturtle)?
Yours,
Mike Lowry

Hi Mike,

Jab has switched to a site-wide group license for
LabVIEW. On upgraded computers, the license is checked at
the startup of LabVIEW by a central Jlab license-server
maintained by Kelvin Edwards. DSG is not the site
administrator for this license.

When DSG works on a service request on a LabVIEW based
system, we typically upgrade that system to the latest
LabVIEW version with the site-wide license.

The upgraded NMR rack in the HDice lab has the latest
LabVIEW version with the Jlab group license #Z71M58668.

When the cRio in the pump cart was replaced, DSG also
upgraded that system with the latest then available LabVIEW
with the group license.

When DSG upgrades our development machines, we obtain the
installation software from the Jlab shared drive or National
Instruments and configure the NI license manger program to
obtain the license from the "labview-lm.jlab.org" central
server.
