Dear collaborators,
Many of you sent suggestions to the draft distributed on May 24th,
and we thank you for your input. We have done our best to address
all of the questions and comments we received, and we believe that the
attached draft is greatly improved.
Among the feedback we received was a list of questions and
suggestions from John Arrington which, among other things, helped us
to streamline the description of the analysis. As per John's
recommendation we added extra lines to Table II (listing D_in and A_in),
making it easier to follow the manner in which we move from the
raw asymmetry to the final result.
Some of John's questions focused on the manner in which we determined
the proton dilution in our final event sample. John's questions led
us to look more closely at our calculations regarding the
contributions from nitrogen, where we have modified our analysis,
and also led to the discovery of an error in the calculation for one
point, resulting in new values for D_p/n. You will thus notice that
the values of D_p/n in Table II have changed in comparison to the
draft from May 22. The change in D_p/n results in a change in our
extracted value of GEn of 2.7%, 5.7% and 0.7% for our lowest to
highest values of Q2 respectively. While well under one sigma, it
is good we discovered this now and not later! Much of the delay in
getting you this version of the manuscript was due to looking
carefully at this issue. Also, with Johns suggestions, we have
slightly increased our systematic error for these points reflecting
theorhetical uncertainties in our calculations.
We received a number of questions and comments regarding differences
between the draft from December 2nd and the draft from May 24th, and
include at the end of this email a discussion of their origins.
While we have communicated with many of you individually on these
differences, we hope these comments will be useful in resolving any
unanswered questions. Please let us know if you have further questions.
We would like to begin the submission process on August 3rd (one
week from now), and would appreciate hearing any further comments that
you might have. The submission process includes having the Hall A CC
look at the paper, as well as sharing it with Larry Cardman and others at
the lab. Roughly one week after that, we would hope to submit it to
prl, and post it on the arXiv.
Again, thank you everyone for your help!
Sincerely,
Bogdan, Gordon, Nilanga and Seamus
