Dear E12-11-009 Collaborators,

Louisiana Tech would like to contribute
in a meaningful way to this experiment.
We have a fully functional cosmic ray test
stand, and should have access to a proton
beam (~250 MeV) in the not too distant
future.

We are in the process of ordering a prototype
proton detector for the neutron polarimeter
to test properties of the detector and PMT choices.
The dimensions are clear from the proposal
(10cm X 10cm X 100cm), and have received
quotes from both Bicron (now St. Gobain), and
Eljen, and will order the scintillator material
in the very near future, and have assumed
that 2" PMT's will be employed. To this end,
I have researched some PMT's from both
Hamamatsu and Electron Tubes corporations,
and found a few suitable candidates
(Hamamtsu H-1949-51 and ET 9205B) with
fast rise times, reasonable linearity, and relatively
low dark current. I intend to get quotes from them
within the next few days. If other choices have
been made by the collaboration that we are
unaware of, I would ask that you please let us
know soon, so that we could order a detector
package that is most consistent with what
the collaboration intends to use for the
experiment.

We have a grant that expires at the end of September,
and need to encumber the funds by the end of August,
and would like to spend these funds in a useful way to
help out the experiment.

Thanks, and best regards,
Steve Wells
