Dear all,
Some of you may have attended the weekly general EIC meeting at JLab,
others may not. I want to convey some very good news to these physics
groups that deal with the lower-medium energy and high luminosity
science at the EIC.
In the past weeks the accelerator folks from JLab and from BNL have come
to establish 21 joined task forces to tackle outstanding issues in the
designs of the machine and the interaction regions and their relations
to the detector integration. The attached screenshot of one slide shown
by Todd Satogata at the meeting shows these task forces and what lab
takes main responsibility for them. Eight of the task forces (yellow
boxes) are JLab driven. Among them the low-energy luminosity/facility
optimization, the 2nd IR design, and the detector/solenoid integration.
The design of the 2nd IR and the focus on high-lumi/low-to-medium energy
are now firmly established as part of the CDR preparations. I think this
is a major step forward in our desire to optimize the EIC plans towards
some of the high priorities science topics.
All the best,
Volker
