A message from Jim Fast, EIC Associate Project Manager
[cid:image011.png at 01DA81B7.DACFF130]The FY24 funding bills are now signed into law and the EIC is receiving just under $98M as planned.  The President's budget request for FY25 has been published as has the flow-down to the programs.  The current funding for EIC would be just under $113M, about half of the EIC request and about $40M less than what the project had been hoping for.  It is early days in the FY25 budget process so there is ample opportunity for the Congress to adjust the number up.  While this low funding level would impact CD-3B procurement plans and delay the project overall, it should not impact JLab labor resources.   The project will continue to focus on advancing the design and work planning required to achieve CD-2 (establishing the project baseline scope, cost and schedule) in late 2025.

I am looking forward to our next quarterly All-Hands meeting on April 11.  I encourage everyone to attend in person starting at noon to enjoy some food and mingle with the rest of the project team.  Todd Satogata will be giving a presentation on the EIC accelerator design over lunch.  Finally, I would like to thank everyone working on EIC contributions to the upcoming Open House.

 DOE Organizational Announcements

  *   The Director of DOE-SC (Dr. Behre) is stepping down and Dr. Harriett Kung will become acting Director.  We anticipate this to be the case perhaps up to 1 year into the new administration.
  *   Dr. Tim Hallman is leaving ONP to take on a role Special Advisor role in the SC office on Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility.
  *   Dr. Linda Horton will take over as Acting Director for ONP.  She comes from Basic Energy Science.
  *   ARDAP is being absorbed again under HEP as a new Accelerator Technology (AT) Division.  ARDAP was spun out of HEP only 2 years ago.  This new division will also include technologies for AI and QIS.

  *   UK funding announcement of 58M Pounds for EIC on March 27
  *   DOE signed off and approved CD-3A officially on March 28

Welcome New Hires
EIC at JLab welcomes Zachary "Zack" Conway!

New Level 2 Manager for the Electron-Ion Collider Project's RF Systems.  Zack previously served as the RF Systems Deputy-Level 2 Manager and as the Lead RF Physicist for RF Device Production and Testing at Brookhaven National Laboratory.  Zack earned his Ph.D. in Physics from The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2007.  His dissertation studied the interactions between the electromagnetic and acoustic eigenmodes of superconducting cavities, proposed means of predicting cavity behavior given the drive RF signal or specifying the drive via the desired cavity performance, and verified the methods.
