A message from Jim Fast, EIC Deputy Associate Project Manager

[cid:image005.png at 01DB14AA.364551B0]Review season is upon us with the Director's Review fast approaching and the Office of Science's Independent Project Review just 3 months away.  Focus remains on how we're executing on the approved CD-3A scope and our CD-3B requests.  Also, important as part of the "annual status review" element is overall design progress towards having a baseline for the project next year.
As the project leadership works through various funding scenarios it is becoming clear that there will not be funding sufficient to support a CD-3X in FY26 and that next year's reviews will focus entirely on baselining a significant part of the EIC project.  From the project side, ideally this would be the entirety of the "Phase 1" package which gets the EIC to early physics, but the DOE may not be prepared to do so due to their own funding uncertainties.  This may lead to baselining a sub-project with reduced scope that can launch the most time-critical and technically mature parts of the EIC in FY27 while other parts of the project continue to develop technically.  In all funding scenarios the current EIC workforce levels at JLab are secure.  In fact, the scenarios allow for expansion by 10-20 FTEs which likely means engaging some contract labor as the skills mix we need will transition significantly as we move into FY27 and start of production.
