A Message From Katherine Wilson, EIC at JLab Interim Deputy Project Director

[cid:image020.jpg at 01DBA55B.D707C820]As we continue our work on the Electron-Ion Collider project, we recognize the evolving landscape that we are working in.  This spring has brought changes in government priorities, and in the DOE, including our site office, as well as a change in direction of our management & operations (M&O) contract.  And on our project, there may be changes in priority as we define subprojects and adapt to funding realities.  While these shifts bring both challenges and opportunities, our mission remains clear: to drive progress on the United States' flagship collider project.

The review of the electron injector and RCS in a few weeks will validate our concept for this significant design effort. Following that, we will finalize the scope of the EIC subprojects, leading up to an independent project review in August-an opportunity to present our approach to subprojects.

As we navigate these changes, staying focused, working collaboratively, and remaining committed to our mission will be key to our success. Thank you for your dedication and hard work!

EIC at JLab Employee Spotlight - Christine Fragapane

[cid:image021.jpg at 01DBA55B.D707C820]Christine A. Fragapane received a promotion to EIC Senior Project Coordinator at Jefferson Lab.  She has 40 years of experience serving in the administrative support field - 28 of those years have been dedicated to Jefferson Lab. In 1997, Christine began her career as a Secretary II supporting the Radcon Group, headed by Bob May, the Personnel Safety Systems (PSS) Group, headed by Kelly Mahoney, and Cryo Group, headed by Bill Chronis and were all located in Building 89.  In the years since, her administrative roles included, Human Resources Administrative Assistant, Executive Administrative Assistant, and Project Administrator.

Christine has built a reputation for driving efficiency, fostering strong partnerships, and making things happen. She recently served has a strategic partner with Senior Team Leaders (Joe Preble, Ed Daly, and Mike Bevins) on the following multi-lab partnership projects: Spallation Neutron System Proton Power Upgrade (SNS PPU), Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) II and High Energy (HE) projects. She is currently coordinating multiple project reviews and meetings by fostering a supportive relationship with the EIC BNL administrative team and leading the EIC at JLab Administrative Team.

Christine has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.  Beyond the office, Christine serves as chairperson for the Mildred McDaniel Concert Series, which hosts monthly at her church, where she serves as assisting minister and sings in the choir. She enjoys wine tasting adventures with her husband, Carmen, and cat expeditions with her two cats, Nero and Fiano.

Did You Know? Spotlight on Street Names

The streets on campus are named after famous physicists. For example:

Hofstadter Road:

Hofstadter was an American physicist. He was the joint winner of the 1961 Nobel Prize in Physics (together with Rudolf Mössbauer) "for his pioneering studies of electron scattering in atomic nuclei and for his consequent discoveries concerning the structure of nucleons."

Wolfgang Ernst Pauli (25 April 1900 - 15 December 1958)

Pauli was an Austrian theoretical physicist and a pioneer of quantum physics. In 1945, after having been nominated by Albert Einstein, Pauli received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his "decisive contribution through his discovery of a new law of Nature, the exclusion principle or Pauli principle". The discovery involved spin theory, which is the basis of a theory of the structure of matter.
