Folks,
As of today we have made a change in the leadership structure of
the Mechanical Engineering Department within the Engineering Division.
Mark Wiseman is temporarily stepping down as the Department head so that
he can concentrate on the challenging task of providing mechanical
engineering support to the SRF Institute. Tim Michalski will take on
the Departmental leadership role and will become the primary point of
contact for inserting work into this group as well as managing work
schedules, staffing, budgets and work processes.
In Mark's continued role as the primary interface point to the SRF
Institute he will help to coordinate mechanical issues in cryomodule
design and construction for several new projects and the ongoing 12 GeV
effort.
Tim's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Masters in Engineering
Management along with his many years in industry managing large groups
of engineers and designers will serve him well in his new role. Tim
will retain some of his duties as Engineering Division Manager Deputy as
time is available.
I envision this as a temporary arrangement, similar to a
sabbatical, lasting 2 - 3 years. It will be continuously reevaluated
as the path forward for mechanical engineering support services after
the 12 GeV upgrade becomes clearer both for the experimental program and
the SRF Institute. At an opportune time this arrangement will be
changed so that Tim can re-assume his full time role as my deputy and
the leadership of the ME Department reconfigured to address the
challenges being presented at that time.
Please give Mark and Tim your full support as they settle into their new
roles.
Will
