All,

Ron Lauze has served as the Electrical Engineering Support ( EES ) Liaison to Accelerator Operations since 2002.  It was a role that needed definition and Ron did this in his usual unique fashion.  The position has become a vital link between the Engineering Division and Accelerator Operations during the 6 GeV era that Ron has efficiently fulfilled with dedication and at times with the necessary humor.  With 11 years of service in this role and the rapid approach of 12 GeV commissioning/operations it is time to let Ron move on to other activities that are befitting the "experienced statesman" he is.  For this reason, in close consultation with Accelerator Operations, Bill and I would like to announce the following changes within the Engineering Division.

Ken Baggett , who is presently the lead of the Magnetic Measurements Group within Metrology , will take over the EES Liaison role.  In Ken's new role he will report directly to Bill Merz with the following duties:

    *
Work with Accelerator Operations and System Owners to implement the new Hot Check Out ( HCO ) process across all accelerator systems, ensuring that EES systems are ready for beam after accelerator maintenance downs.
    *
Work with Accelerator Operations, EES Operations Coordinators & System Owners to maintain EES system performance and availability goals addressing issues through coordination with appropriate groups within EES and when necessary outside the EES organization.
    *
Ensure all EES system maintenance activities are scheduled using ATLis   and conduct regular meetings with EES Operations Coordinators to plan maintenance and evaluate system performance statistics.
    *
Oversee the on-call program for EES through scheduling of staff and ensuring the proper training is provided to ensure effectiveness of support activities.
    *
Work with the Operations Software Group and EES system experts to ensure all EES systems are properly loaded into the CEBAF Element Database (CED).

While this is not a comprehensive list of Ken's new duties it indicates he will broadly interface with all of EES , Accelerator Operations and the Engineering Division to carry out his duties.  Please fully support Ken in this key role.

Ron will remain as Bill Merz's deputy for the EES Department and acquire new duties which will include the following items:

    * Evaluate and develop where necessary the documentation and training required to bring the new 12 GeV systems into "standard operations and maintenance" within the EES organization.   This includes the associated procedures to ensure safe operation and maintenance of these systems.
    * Serve as a resource for Ken Baggett as he assumes his new role and defines how it may need to evolve for 12 GeV operations.
    * Take on special projects as Bill sees fit.

Additionally, Chris Curtis will assume a bigger role in day-to-day operations within the Magnetic Measurements Group. Ken will complete the necessary work to "put to bed" the 12 GeV tasks he has been guiding for the past several years and will be available for consultation. Renuka Rajput-Ghoshal will assume a technical guidance role for the group as her duties as an engineer on the Hall B Solenoid magnet allow.  For day-to-day operational concerns either Chris Curtis or Joe Meyer can be consulted for help.

These changes will become effective on July 16th.  We ask everyone to please give your full support to all those who are acquiring new roles or expanding their current ones.  The transition from a 12 GeV construction project to operations will be challenging with many changes necessary to address the lab's needs. We hope this is one of many steps to evolve to the point of executing excellent physics as efficiently as possible.

Bill and I would like to thank Ron for his years of dedicated support that often required numerous hours outside the normal work week.  Ron has certainly set a standard of excellence in many areas; skills Ken will need to work hard to surpass.

Will and Bill
