To All,
Please pass this message below during your tool box/group talks; the take home message being do not use transformers (or any other electrical equipment for that matter) as work benches and/or areas to store material and equipment. We do not want to hinder the air circulation of the equipment and/or take a chance of any foreign material falling into the equipment through the vented areas or when a cover is removed for example from a circuit breaker panel.
Currently safety wardens are making an effort to place signage on top of these indoor dry type transformer. Even though specific areas are listed below where this was noticed at that time of a safety warden inspection; this habit/practice has been noticed elsewhere on site. Pass along this message to all your fellow workers as you see fit.
I have tagged you with this email because I thought that your groups may have recently been/still are involved in work in these areas; but I'm not trying to single out any individuals or work groups (just want to give some help to the safety warden of this area to rectify this issue).
Thanks for your cooperation and for spreading the message.
Todd Kujawa
"Some weeks ago, you and Harry gave me a bag of signs to put on transformers in my buildings. I finally got around to placing some today in the Injector Building and West Arc.
In Buildings W-3 through W-5 and the Injector there were no major problems. A few transformers had junk on them, but never more than a couple of items and I was able to move them elsewhere. Then I got to W-2 and W-1 (68 and 82).
Nearly every transformer in both those buildings had junk, trash, test equipment, tons of cables and even rack equipment on them. I was able to move some things and label those transformers, but the rest... If you get a chance I recommend that you go out there and look.
Right now technicians are working there rear ends off to get the machine ready to lock up and run later today. They have been doing so all week actually. However, at some point these buildings need to be cleaned and all this trash removed, especially from the transformers."
