ACCELERATOR SEMINAR 

Strong Focusing Cyclotrons for Accelerator Driven Fission 

Akhdiyor Sattarov, 
Texas A & M University 

Accelerator driven fission based on thorium/uranium cycles, minor actinides burner, medical isotope production and spallation neutron sources for novel materials in reactor applications are examples of systems that require high intensity proton beams.  A system of strong focusing isochronous cyclotrons, capable of accelerating high intensity proton beams up to 800 MeV, is being developed by our group.  Preliminary results on reference orbit calculations, sector magnet design strategy and strong focusing channel parameters will be discussed.
