This morning we did some leak testing of the Halls at the ESR complex.
Here is some info and some preliminary findings:
1) PV60DLP leaks through in the forward direction at a pretty high rate as we continuously provided ~0.3 g/s from Hall B to the Halls until the recovery system was shut down. It may also leak in the backward direction as when the recovery system was shutdown the halls pressurized quickly, this is not 100% clear as the supply valve in hall B did not fully close fast enough to be sure of this.
2) Once the recovery system was shut down the supply valve control valve PV8563C in Hall B did fully close and the regulator at ESR PR6010 leaked through enough to lift the relief its relief valve which was set at 6.0 atm. The manual valve that supplies that regulator was then shut.
3) At ~10:30 We isolated all 3 halls from each other and the ESR/CHL by closing the final connection valves which were open (MV6010B, and MV6031A,B,C) this then showed us that there is some leakage in Hall A. The rate should be easily calculable if we can get an estimate of the volume of the helium system (warm + cold piping and reservoirs). The pressure loss rate is about 0.5psig/90minutes. See attached plot
4) Hall B took longer to get a trend on because we had some volumes that were at elevated pressures because we were using the 4atm line as the source for All Halls. Once these volumes were vented down the rate of pressure change stabilized at 0.012atm/30 minutes. The assumed reason for the pressure increase is that magnets and dewar are warming and the lower density gas is keeping any leaks from being seen. There may be no leaks but this is hard to be sure of...
5) Hall C has gone flat line on the pressure so what ever the warming effect (which is likely very small) is being cancelled by a small leak rate
