Dear Team,
I light of the CHL change over this week end and scheduled work in hall-B is temporary over (Denny feedback) both solenoid and torus magnets test is rescheduled for next two days (starting tomorrow).
The intention is charging solenoid in reverse polarity as required.
18th Morning/19th if required - incase magnet dumps and will take time to recover) -
1.
Charge both magnets to full field as normal.
2.
Bring the solenoid to zero and run in steps to reverse the polarity to full field (NS, RF, PG, DK-optional, recording behaviors of critical parameters e.g. load cells)
3.
With Solenoid at full reverse field, bring the torus to zero and reverse the polarity.
4.
Park the magnet at full field or intermediate field for ~15 min (min) to see any changes to the parameters in control.
5.
Nick S - required to unlock the reversing the current in the solenoid and also set the load cells to controlled ramp down (from fast dumps as coded presently to avoid any fast discharge, the operation will be manned throughout the test).
6.
Expected to take about 8 hrs in total...!
As discussed and perceived earlier (during commissioning) that magnets are not at risk except the magnet could lead to a fast dump.
Physics need to confirm that that this do not effect or pose any risk to any detectors in the range.
Thanks to all for your efforts.
Regards
Probir
NOTE:
1. Dave K, Denny - out of office on 18th
2. Calvin M will be available with Cryo-incase need to access and service tower and activities in the hall.
3. Please call either - Probir Ghoshal (5183343289 cell) or Ruben Fair (5183342877 cell) incase you need any further information.

Subject: [Esr-users] Hall B SC Magnet testing
Good afternoon all,
The magnet group has completed updating of the firmware for the Torus and Solenoid PS's. They will be ready to start testing as soon as tomorrow morning. We are not expecting any issues but will be testing to full field and anything is possible. That being said, I am looking for comments, worries, concerns or hopefully just "sure go ahead, we're good".
Thanks,
