Outage: Install Valves in Test Lab Basement Chilled Water Piping to Reduce UIM Impact
Proposed By: Carroll W. Jones
Start Time: 12/30/2014 03:00
End Time: 12/30/2014 22:00
Description/Impacts:
Six (6) butterfly valves and associated piping modifications are to be installed in the Test Lab basement chilled water piping to minimum future adverse impacts to lab operations during execution of the UIM CEBAF Center Cooling and Power Upgrade Project. Prior to the upcoming holiday break, cooling will be switched from the Test Lab basement chillers to the CUP Chiller to enable the F-Wing Data Center not to be impacted by the required shutdown and draining of chilled water piping in the Test Lab basement. All other areas cooled by the Central Chiller Plant System will not have chilled water full the majority of Tuesday December 2014. Areas impacted include the Test Lab TLA (including cleanrooms, labs, and UPW components cooled with chilled water), the Test Lab highbay, the Test Lab North Addition (includes HDIce area and the UHV Furnace), the EEL Building (all areas except the second floor office area - includes all cleanrooms), and the Accelerator service building chille
d water loop. Work is being performed during the holiday break since the Accelerator will not be operational and ambient conditions should be cool and dry enough minimize impact to cleanrooms. If not the valves are not installed during this period, the chilled water system shutdown will have to occur during warmer more humid weather or possible result in significant delay of UIM Project completion. As much work as possible (welding weldolets for 12" taps and relocation of Process Cooling Water System makeup water and reservoir nitrogen supply piping will be performed prior to the actual chilled water system shutdown. Piping will be isolated and draining will begin Tuesday 12-30-14 about 3 AM. Piping modifications and installation of valves will continue until the system can be restored to normal operation late Tuesday night.
