The Test Lab chillers and associated pumps will be restarted Friday 8-26-16 after completion of piping and control modifications implemented to facilitate operation of both the CUP Building and Test Lab chillers simultaneously without manual intervention. After confirmation of proper operation of Test Lab chillers and associated controls, site Central Chiller System cooling load will be switched from the CUP Building chillers to the Test Lab chillers. If all goes as planned, the Test Lab chillers should be support the site Central Chiller System cooling load by the end of the day Monday. It is not planned to have the Central Chiller Plant cooled by the Test Lab chillers over the weekend. The CUP chillers will be shutdown for a day or so to implement redundant control panel power supply modifications. Once the CUP chiller redundant control panel power supply modifications are complete, the CUP chillers will be placed back into operation. Operational testing of both CUP
and Test Lab chillers operating together as a single system and new Test Lab Cooling Tower sequence shall commence in preparation for final commissioning that will begin approximately 8-31-16 which may continue into the beginning of September 2016. Commissioning tests will also include testing of revised Test Lab Cooling Tower control sequences. The new Central Chiller Plant control sequences are designed to optimize chiller plant performance by improving system reliability and reducing plant energy consumption.
During the startup, testing, and commissioning Central Chiller System supply temperature, flow, and differential pressure may vary, but steps will be taken to ensure all systems cooled by the Central Chiller System will not be significantly impacted. Temperature will not be allowed to rise above 48 degrees F for more than 10 to 15 minutes. Chilled water and cooling tower water flow will not be allowed to stop at any time. Critical equipment operational parameters will be monitored to minimize impact to site operations.
Systems cooled by the Central Chiller Plant include the F-Wing Data Center, F113, Accelerator Service Building Chilled Water Loop, Test Lab clean rooms, EEL clean rooms, UHV Furnace, EEL Building general shop areas, and Test Lab/TLA shops/labs.
Systems cooled by the Test Lab Cooling Tower include the CUP chillers, Test Lab chillers, Acid Chiller, Test Lab LCW System, TED LCW System, and TLA Process Cooling Water System.
