Colleagues,
Attached please find a draft tech note created to determine whether the
existing septa steel lengths are sufficient at 22 GeV if one can
adequately magnetically-couple a conductively cooled HTS superconductor
to the steel. With that very stringent caveat, the answer is yes. One
may even be able to shorten the steel ~10% to keep the overall
installation length, including cryocooler(s), the same.
Harmonic content is large. If anyone wants the 25 MB spreadsheet with
the details of the summaries in tables 2 and 3, email me. And the opc
files, for that matter. Maximum mesh size is 2 mm, quadratic elements,
where beam orbits are calculated. Sampling theorem requirements more
than satisfied even for 20-pole.
