Here is a follow up on carbon target "contamination" from Chris.
Since pictures are too large for the mailing list I put them on them on the web:

Subject: FROST heat shields

Hi Eugene,
I located the attached photos of FROST showing the heat shield in question. These were taken on Feb 14, 2008. According to my notebook, we had completed the g9a runs, had removed the butanol and performed NMR measurements on the empty cup. We disassembled the cryostat in order to replace the solenoid with the saddle coils. We cooled down again and tested the saddle coils on Feb. 18 and 19. The photos show the state of the heat shield as it was disassembled. I don't having anything in my notebook as being unusual.

The first two shots show the super-insulation on the 1K shield. You can see a hint of a bulge in the 2nd photo. It may simply be due to the carbon target, who knows? The second photo shows the carbon target taped over a thin sheet of aluminum foil. The foil acts as a heat shield and as a reflector for the microwaves.

I'm sorry to say there is still no smoking gun.

Chris
