Well folks, JLab's public_html may finally be back, more or less. The
infrastructure was put in place for 'testing' a while ago, but was still
disabled for offsite access. I tried it again this morning and it
appears to be working this week. Be sure to read the caveats though.
The new plan requires that you request space using the link near the top
of this page:
https://cc.jlab.org/webservices/userweb
If it complains you can't access that page, use the "Single Sign-on"
link that should be present at the upper right of the cc.jlab.org main
page and try again.
Once your space is approved (seems to take a couple days) you will find
a new directory at the path /userweb/<username>/ (if you are on jlabl1,
jlabl2,...). You will have to copy your web files across manually.
You can access your space at this URL from on- and off-site.
http://userweb.jlab.org/~<username>
CAVEATS:
- Note that the /userweb filesystem is not mounted everywhere. For
example, neither the cdaq cluster nor ifarm seems to see it at the
moment. Talk to me if this is a large problem.
- I've been told that the old-style www.jlab.org/~<username>/... links
will get mapped to the equivalent path at userweb.jlab.org. This
doesn't seem to be working yet. Get your 'requests for space' in, and
I'll bug people about this part -- hopefully it will be working by the
time IT sets you up.
- Note that the unix command on the initial 'howto' link is still wrong/
incomplete. You should use the '-a' argument so directories and
permissions are handled correctly. For example:
cp -a ~/public_html/stuff /userweb/username/public_html/stuff
