Dear Colleagues,

Xiangdong phoned this afternoon, and we had quite a long chat. I sent him the following which is largely in the spirit of my draft yesterday, but maybe a little more diplomatic (I think…..).

Regards,
David

Dear Xiangdong and Feng,

My apologies for the delayed response. Both Feng's and my presentation identified very congruent projects, encompassing GPD theory, global fitting, and lattice QCD. We had a very long discussion yesterday morning amongst the group I mentioned in my talk, and there was strong enthusiasm that there be a single proposal.

The feeling was that a good approach would be for three or four from our group (with interests that can speak to those three areas) have with a discussion with Feng’s colleagues who can likewise speak to those areas, including of course Xiangdong, and first explore some of the physics opportunities that they have identified, and how to realize those opportunities. It may be a little premature to call this a steering committee, though of course the need to construct an LOI by the end of February does mean time is of the essence.

I need to confirm the names with some of my colleagues, given the commitment this may entail, but will aim to do so as soon as possible.

Regards,
David

Dear David and Feng,
Thanks again for your nice presentations yesterday.
As we have discussed, we shall form a steering committee
to get things moving forward. We shall announcement
them to the community this week if possible and have meetings
next week to solve a number of urgent problems like
memberships, funds to require, joint faculty etc. Writing a strong
proposal is a challenge.
  best regards,
Xiangdong
