Hi David et al,

I'm glad you agree. How about Thursday mid-morning (10 or 11?) for everyone? Hopefully then this is not too late in Europe?

Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I think this is a good idea, since some of the AI talks do indeed look interesting. Tuesday or Thursday (maybe even better) at least don’t clash with seminars, etc., so would seem ideal to me.

Hi everyone,

I know that there is no ideal time, but I was wondering whether we could find another day and time for the group meeting. Currently the Wednesday 12:15 pm slot clashes with the JLab AI Lunch Series, which has had some interesting-looking seminars. This week's, for example, is

Dr. Mustafa Mustafa (LBNL) ... a presentation on “Introduction to Deep Learning”

I will introduce the modern incarnation of neural networks, specifically the construction process of deep models that are powering most recent advances in artificial intelligence. Assuming no prior knowledge of the field, the audience will be brought up to speed with how neural networks work, how they are built and optimized and common tricks and techniques to improve their performance. By the end of the talk the audience will be familiar with start-of-the-art convolutional architectures and the stages of developments that brought them about. If time permits, I will overview common science problem instances that can be tackled using deep learning.

We are no longer constrained by teaching schedules, so we could move the meeting to Tuesday or Thursday, at least for the summer?

Let me know what you think.

Regards,
Chris
