[Halla12_software] unified PVDIS and SIDIS solenoid

Hello Everyone,

While the configuration can change somewhat, I'm not sure that thing are
that flexible, not just in terms of what detectors PVDIS and SIDIS want,
but the more practical point of whether this is something we can build.
When I look at Eugene's original BaBar design, there were approximately
1.6 m of space for detectors between the coils upstream pole tip and the
large flux return. This can change somewhat, but not by a factor of
two. I base this comment on consideration of the flux return and the
additional energy that is needed to make that larger. In terms of the
angle of the "nose cone"--the consideration here is how to minimize the
field in the detector region. Some of the flux will immediately go up
and back through the upstream pole, but the rest needs to find iron
somewhere, and this is provided by this area.

We should talk in person about this. I'm going to be at the SoLID
meeting this Friday. (I get in around midnight on Thursday.) On Sat.
and Sun. I have day shifts in Hall A, so we could talk then if we need
to and if the experiment is going well.
