Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting: July 10, 2018, 2018
1. Thia Keppel
a. Senior Staff
i. Budgets still okay
ii. ~$600K bought for cores, scientific computing (Not annual)
iii. The lab got ~ $200K [$9.9M total] in “thin plan” for ESR upgrade (expediting before FY19, starting is
positive)
iv. Annual lab research plan
1. 4-5 people missing Get information to Lorelei!
v. Friday (July 13th) SoLID DOE meeting(Stuart, Bob, Rolf, Thia to attend)
vi. Next week PAC
vii. Following week, Operations Review & EIC Meeting (still no word on NAS report)
viii. August 7th and 8th, Director’s Review of JLEIC cost estimate
ix. August 24th, Mont Symposium
x. ~Lab Director’s Operations Review last week (preparatory, internal)
1. Regular operations, no MIE projects
2. Positive overall
xi. July 30th – August 8th Annual Crane & Rigging inspection
1. Will coordinate with Hall Work Coordinators

i. Ordered parts for titanium window replacement
3. Jessie Butler
a. Shipped TDIS test setup to MSU
b. Worked with HCal users on solution for accessing the bottom row of modules
c. Made new entrance window for LHRS
d. Met with Silviu and Al to discuss APEX target parts
e. Worked with property sorting out storage request for Warwick Storage
f. Began making parts needed to re-wire APEX buss bars
g. Started re-installing lead flags on magnets
h. Repaired broken connectors (radiation damaged) on RQ2 and dipole
i. During ESR “helium loss test” discovered a few of the distribution can valves prematurely leaked by a
head of the cracking pressure
j. Troubleshoot and repair relief valves on distribution can
k. Cleaned up RQ3 Helium return u-tube
l. Set up cryo system in preparation of receiving cold gas flow the week of July 9th
m. Begin the setup for welding the Cerenkov extensions box
n. Did final clean up on RQ3 and LQ3 u-tubes, mirror cans A & B, as well as the distribution can
o. Continued to work with techs from Hall C showing them how to setup a vacuum system for pumping and
purging
4. Jack Segal
a. Support HCal detector work in test lab
b. Request to build shelving units for delay cables, will be placed next to HCal detector halves, ordering
1000lb capacity, 5-shelf units same as CDET
c. Detectors to be lifted and rearranged next week, allows easier access for fibering with section being
worked on top
d. Triger scintillator, HV box and cabling, HCal PMT array to be removed prior to lift
e. HCal DAQ outfitting of additional racks with power distribution for NIM bins and cooling fans
f. Preparing to move HRS detector stack out for new Cerenkov extension and aerogel installation
