Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting October 27, 2009 1) Run Report: (Wouter Deconinck) a) For full details of day-to-day summaries see: http://www.jlab.org/~wdconinc/happex/RC-Summary- Oct27-2009.pdf b) It wasn�t a good week i) 2 Accelerator site-wide power failures ii) Magnet power supply problems iii) Target problems iv) Accelerator controls problems v) Etc�. c) Beamtime summary i) Scheduled: 153 hours ii) Actual: 75.6 hours iii) ABU: 39.1 hours iv) BANU: 76.1 hours d) Major reasons for BANU: i) Power outage (not really BANU) ii) Fast feedback problems iii) Target fan failure in loop 3, change-over to loop 1 iv) Spectrometer magnet cryogenics v) 2nd Power outage e) HAPPEX III is finished, remaining shifts are canceled 2) Installation: (Ed Folts) a) Continuing to support the experiment b) Working on: i) M�ller ii) PREX septum platform iii) Keeping abreast of PREX septum magnet c) Spent a lot of time this week on HAPPEX III 3) Javier Gomez: All efforts are now directed towards getting both spectrometers up and running for the next experiment, PVDIS. 4) Jack Segal a) Continuing with magnet work today (10/27) b) Start detector work tomorrow (10/28) c) There�s lots of radiation damage to repair. 5) Al Gavalya a) PREX septum magnets: Al and Macon are supporting magnet tests in Hall C i) Found a few iron pieces out of spec. Have made adjustments. b) Joyce is finishing the details of the Compton laser enclosure. Expect to have drawings checked by the end of the week. c) Susan is working on the details of the actuator for the beam degrader for PREX. d) Received designs from Charles Hyde for modifications for the DVCS run 6) Dave Meekins a) Tells Ed that he has to do a pump and purge on the target tomorrow before bringing the scattering chamber up to air. b) Don�t anticipate any problems getting the target ready for PVDIS c) Will have to send the PREX target out for work. -JJL
