Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting April 13, 2010 1) Run Report: (Ramesh Subedi) a) For full details see: http://www.jlab.org/~rsubedi/talks/2010_talks/Run CoordinatorReport/prex.pdf b) No beam for the last week due to vacuum failure in the target chamber last Tuesday. c) Gives list of opportunistic work done during the unexpected down d) Leak was caused by an o-ring failure. It has been replaced and a collimator has been added to mitigate such failures in the future. e) Compton Cavity power went from 1.7 kW to 2.5 kW (This is very good) f) Future plans: i) When ready to take beam (possibly Thursday?), do alignment checks on target positions and sieve slits. ii) Go to production mode. iii) Compton and Møller polarimeter’s further commissioning is also needed. g) Long discussion follows re ways to reduce the risk of a similar failure in the future. h) John LeRose will make a halog entry reminding people why we have radiation monitor strip charts. 2) Installation: (Ed Folts) a) Parts are in the shop. b) As soon as we get the parts we’ll be ready to close up the target chamber. Hopefully this afternoon (4/13) c) Close the Hall tomorrow (4/14), not before noon. 3) Dave Meekins adds that, judging by the spot on the target the raster was actually larger than 6 x 6 mm. 4) Engineering/Design: Paul Brindza a) Designers helping with the new collimator and looked unsuccessfully into a metal o-ring. b) Working on Møller cryogenics c) DCVS: parts are out for fabrication d) G2P: looking at alternate configurations of the RT septum e) Getting started on TOSCA modeling of SBS magnet 5) Jixie Zhang reports on Møller status. a) Report is on the Møller link in the Hall A Wiki. See http://www.jlab.org/~moller/jixie/FADCMollerStatu s_04122010.pdf b) Have had 3 test runs and a spin dance with the new FADC data acquisition c) Data analysis is ongoing d) Debugging and updating software e) Compares “Old” to FADC symmetries. They are very similar and consistent. -JJL
