Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting November 23, 2010 1) Run Report: Kalyan Allada (DVCS) a) For full report see: link b) Beamtime: i) ABU: 105.7 hours ii) BANU: 12.6 hours (1) Planned Configuration change (2) Target cryo issue iii) BNA: 26.6 hours (1) ioc issue (2) Pass change (3) Beam studies c) Gives day by day summary (lots of production running) d) Plans: i) Now at 3-pass ii) Beam off at 1400 on Wednesday (11/24) iii) Beam back at 0800 Friday (11/26) iv) Target will stay cold v) Hall will be in controlled access vi) Will run “kin 1-low” till Monday e) Problems: i) BCM inconsistency between up and downstream ii) Deadtime fluctuations 2) Installation: (Howard Smith) a) Working on the septum magnet b) Rebuilding bogie system on the right arm c) Upgrading Q2/Q3 SCR banks 3) Al Gavalya a) Whit: working on test fixture for the g2p thin window b) Chris: drawings for the target mount and access platform c) Joyce: Møller cryo i) Having problems purchasing the lead wall d) Susan: drawings for the thin window are checked. Now working on the viewer for the low power dump and He bag e) Making a transition to a completely new software package, schedule unclear, will have to devote 10% of time to making that transition 4) Dave Meekins a) Will need to design some things for g2p. Plans to talk with J-P re the details b) Concerned re the high pressure He in cells and cell blocks 5) Bogdan Wojtsekhowski a) Continuing APEX analysis, looking at small amount of production data. i) Found that the sieve holes for one row were not where the drawings said they were. PREX take note! When correct position put in the analysis fits got much better. b) Repairing FPP chambers c) GeN paper: reviewers are satisfied; expect it to be accepted soon. 6) Alexandre Camsonne a) Re trigger fluctuations, they appear to be random, still need further testing. 7) John LeRose a) Making some progress getting codes to run on machines other than JLabs2, which is going away. With help from Jixie got snake and mudifi to compile and run on JLabL2, and other machines. Snake graphics are still screwy. b) Starting to prepare talks for the collaboration meeting 8) J-P Chen a) g2p: i) Problems with low current BPM stripline. 12 GeV has decided to drop it. Will have to go back to the old BPM. Will work, but contemplating possible improvements. ii) Target material radiation: (1) FEL is too costly (2) NIST is much cheaper. Waiting for final word from NIST (3) Haven’t looked at Idaho State yet b) Transversity collaboration meeting: i) Going through lots of checks ii) Expect to release the neutron result soon iii) Making good progress 9) Kees asks Dave Meekins about plans to cooldown the polarized target before installing. Dave says yes they’ll cool it down in the EEL, but probably won’t do full scale tests, just check for leaks and heat loads. Happy Thanksgiving! -JJL
